Audio Cleanup
Remove Wind Noise from Outdoor Recordings
Wind hitting the mic ruins otherwise great footage. KROMA analyzes your clip for wind, rain, traffic, and other environmental noise — then gives you a fader for each so you can take out exactly what's ruining the take.
How it works
- 1
Drop in your clip
WAV/MP3 audio or MP4/MOV video — phone footage, action cams, field recorders, all welcome.
- 2
Analyze the sounds
KROMA scans the recording and lists only the sounds it actually found — wind, rain, traffic, speech, birds, hum — alongside vocals and music.
- 3
Mute what doesn't belong
Pull the wind fader to zero. Keep the birds if they fit the scene. Each detected sound is independent.
- 4
Download
Clean audio back — or a remuxed video with the picture untouched.
Sounds KROMA can isolate
Why wind is hard — and how this handles it
Wind noise is broadband and intermittent — it sits on top of the voice instead of in a separate frequency band, which is why simple high-pass filters and noise gates leave audible pumping artifacts.
KROMA separates wind as its own sound layer using a text-queried neural separation model — the same engine that picks out crowd noise or applause. The wind estimate is then subtracted through a frequency mask that only touches the cells where wind actually dominates, so the voice underneath survives.
Selective, not blanket, denoising
A blanket noise remover can't tell rain from applause or traffic from bass — it suppresses everything that isn't speech, and the world goes flat. KROMA's mixer keeps the environmental sounds as separate, adjustable tracks: kill the wind, keep the birdsong, leave a touch of street ambience for realism. The scene keeps its life; the recording keeps its clarity.
Video stays untouched
Upload the MP4 or MOV directly. KROMA processes only the audio and remuxes it back — the video stream is copied through without re-encoding, so there's no generation loss on the picture.
Questions
Can it remove wind noise from a video?
Yes — upload MP4/MOV/M4V and the analysis will list a wind track if it's present. Pull it to zero and download; the video comes back remuxed with clean audio and the picture untouched.
Will the voice get tinny or watery?
The removal uses a frequency mask capped at 80% per cell — it only suppresses where wind genuinely dominates, which avoids the hollow 'underwater' sound of aggressive broadband denoisers. Extreme gusts that fully bury the voice can leave slight residue.
What other outdoor sounds does it detect?
Rain, traffic and engine noise, water, birds, insects, dogs, sirens, electrical hum, speech, laughter and whistling — each appears as its own fader after analysis.
Can I keep some ambience instead of removing everything?
Yes — each track has a gain slider from −24 to +12 dB as well as a mute switch. Keeping wind at −15 dB, for example, removes the harsh gusts while preserving a natural outdoor feel.
